The beach at Encinitas for the summer picnic with the dojo folks. Good times, good memories, good friends. We are blessed.

Staying cool

Altough the summer started off a little gloomy (June gloom spilled into July), the sun has made up for its absence in recent weeks. The best way for the family to stay cool is to hop in the pool for a quick swim. It's even more fun when friends and family come to join. The pool + food + good company = a great summer vacation!

The place I live

Hubby and I went to rival high schools. I like to make a mess and he likes to clean up. We listen to different music. I hate Howard Stern, he listen to him each chance he gets. We have different ideas about what is "fun" .And that isn't the end of our differences.

For people who know us, the differences are apparent right off the bat. Where we are fortunately is that we have the same core beliefs and - above all else - we love each other very much. (I will openly tell you this, and he will make some 'smart' remark about it, but it's true).

When I moved the Mira Mesa more than a decade ago (last century), I always knew that I would have a hard time with remembering names of streets or knowing exactly where key landmarks are located, information that comes second nature to those who are natives (i.e. Hubby and all his friends). We saw a shirt being sold at the 4th of July parade that had MIRA MESA spelled out with the street names embedded in the design. (I would NEVER wear that shirt.) I can't even remember the directions to sissy house by street name...and there are major streets between us. I'm ok with it all. It is a perfect place to raise our children, so in time, I'm sure I will learn a little more... or not.

I love my life in Mira Mesa, although I don't love Mira Mesa. I think it's a nice place and there are some great friends that live here, but I don't know if I will ever think of it as HOME the way that Hubby (and the boys) will. Luckily, my family defines HOME for me, so I guess this is it.

That said, sometime I look up in the summer sky during sunset and think, "Mira Mesa is sometimes pretty."

4th of July in Mira Mesa

!
What a wonderful way to celebrate a National holiday Hubby had to work today, but before heading in, our family took a quick trip to the Mira Mesa Independence Day Parade in front of the high school. Although it was a hot day, the boys quickly forgot about the heat as soon as the parade began. Although we were unable to watch the whole thing, we did enjoy the part that we were able to stay for. Here are a few shots from the say.
